A clear cart total shows the product subtotal, the discount actually applied, the delivery charge and any separately applicable tax before the final amount. Label the currency and explain changes when the basket changes. DROPS connects products, checkout and order records, helping customers understand what they are agreeing to and staff answer price questions from the same order context.

Make every number explain its role

“Total: 64” is incomplete when the customer cannot tell whether delivery is included or a promotion worked. Show the relevant components in the order they contribute to the final figure.

The product subtotal should match the selected quantities and current prices. The discount should identify the offer or adjustment. Delivery should reflect the selected method and eligible area. Tax presentation must match your shop’s actual configuration and obligations; do not add a generic tax line copied from another retailer.

The checkout acceptance guide helps compare the customer’s review screen with the eventual order record. Both should tell the same price story.

Work through an ordinary basket

Consider this entirely illustrative accessory order, expressed in CAD. For simplicity, the example assumes no separately added tax; it does not describe the tax treatment of any real product or jurisdiction.

Component Calculation Amount
Two accessory packs 2 × CAD 18 CAD 36
One case 1 × CAD 22 CAD 22
Product subtotal 36 + 22 CAD 58
Eligible promotion Fixed discount −CAD 5
Products after discount 58 − 5 CAD 53
Delivery Applicable charge CAD 6
Amount due 53 + 6 CAD 59

The customer can now explain the amount without reverse-engineering it. In a live shop with separately calculated tax, show the actual additional line and resulting total. If prices already include applicable tax, describe that accurately rather than adding it twice.

Explain what happens when the basket changes

Suppose the fictional customer removes the case. The product subtotal falls from CAD 58 to CAD 36. If the CAD 5 promotion requires an eligible subtotal of CAD 50, it no longer applies. With CAD 6 delivery, the new amount due becomes CAD 42 under the same simplified assumptions.

The arithmetic is straightforward; the customer experience can still be confusing. Explain that the qualifying condition changed, not simply that the old discount vanished. The same principle applies when a delivery threshold or selected fulfilment method changes.

Read coupon-field guidance for offer explanations and delivery-cost placement for avoiding late surprises.

Keep payment currency distinct from catalogue currency

When a shop offers cryptocurrency, the catalogue price and the requested coin amount are related but different values. Display the current payment instructions for the order and label the asset clearly. Do not turn an old illustrative conversion into a standing quote.

DROPS BTC/XMR checkout and payment status sit alongside the order, giving the customer a place to understand the requested payment and the team a reference for support. Inspect the exact amount labels and final review in a demo. Avoid promising automatic currency conversion or refund behaviour beyond what the configured flow actually does.

Test the awkward totals

Review a one-item basket, a multi-item basket, an eligible discount and a basket that loses eligibility after an edit. Check rounding, currency labels and the final amount on a phone. A currency symbol alone may be ambiguous for an international audience, so make the shop’s pricing currency clear.

A readable total removes one more reason to stop before payment. Explore DROPS checkout and order management and make the final price as clear as the products customers chose.
