A product description should answer the questions that stand between recognising an item and ordering it. Start with what the product is, what the customer receives and which choice they need to make. Add the relevant compatibility and service information, then remove the adjectives that do no useful work.

DROPS connects descriptions with mobile product details and checkout. Its AI-assisted product review can help staff identify missing information and prepare improvements for approval. The benefit comes from clearer answers, not from generating a longer paragraph for every SKU.

Find the questions hidden behind enquiries

Look at recent product questions without copying private customer details into your catalogue. Common themes might include pack quantity, whether a device is included, which model a replacement fits or when an order can be collected.

Separate product facts from service rules. “Pack of two” belongs in the item description. A general pickup cutoff usually belongs in a maintained service guide linked from the buying path. Repeating the same service promise across hundreds of products creates unnecessary work whenever the rule changes.

Use a small set of questions as an editing lens:

  • Which exact item or model is this?
  • What is included and what is sold separately?
  • What choice changes the item or price?
  • Which relevant compatibility facts are verified?
  • Where can the customer confirm delivery or collection details?

Rewrite one listing around the purchase

Consider this fictional description:

Discover the ultimate Orbit experience. Premium quality, fantastic value and the perfect addition to your setup. Order yours today.

It provides almost no information a picker or customer can use. Here is a more useful fictional rewrite:

Orbit V2 replacement pods — pack of two. Supplied as two empty replacement pods in one retail pack. Choose the listed version before adding to cart. Compatible with the exact models named in the product's manufacturer-backed compatibility section. Device and liquid are sold separately. See collection and delivery details before placing your order.

A real listing would name the verified compatible models rather than leave them implicit. The example shows how the structure changes: product identity, contents, choice, compatibility, exclusions and the next service question.

Earlier uncertainty Answer the new description must supply
One pod or a pack? Number inside the sellable pack
Is the device included? A clear included-items statement
Does it fit my model? Exact manufacturer-supported model names
Which version am I ordering? Selected choice repeated in the cart
Can I collect it today? A link to current collection rules

Keep the strongest facts close to the price

Customers scanning on a phone may not read a long description. Put essential selection facts in the name or short summary and use the longer section for useful detail. Do not bury an important exclusion after several paragraphs of promotional copy.

Write in plain language without inventing performance claims. “Includes two replacement pods” is stronger purchase information than “unbeatable convenience”. Manufacturer specifications should stay factual and should not become health claims or personal usage recommendations.

Give related products the same field order so comparisons are easier. The guide to consistent product descriptions explains how to maintain that pattern across a range.

Check the answer in the order record

Read the listing, choose an item and inspect the cart line. Then ask a staff member to identify what they would pick using only the order details. Any remaining ambiguity is worth fixing before adding more promotional language.

Keep shared service answers in shop service FAQs, and review product-specific facts when packaging or supplier details change. AI can assist with the draft; your team should approve the facts it uses.

Explore DROPS with one listing that currently attracts repeat questions. Turn it into a product page that explains the purchase clearly and gives the customer a direct route to an order.
