A multibuy offer should show the qualifying products, the number required and the total price before the customer reaches checkout. Add the effective per-item price so the value is easy to compare. Then make sure the basket applies exactly the offer you described.

DROPS connects the catalogue, cart and order record, giving you a practical place to inspect that journey. A visible offer can help customers build a larger order, but its value disappears when they have to message staff to find out what qualifies.

Write the whole offer in one place

“Three for 18” is incomplete when the category includes different brands, sizes or pack formats. A useful description might say: “Choose three single bottles from the marked Harbour range for 18 currency units total. Mix listed flavours. Other ranges are excluded.” This is an illustrative offer for a fictional range.

Keep the eligibility note beside the offer, not behind a distant terms link. Explain whether customers can mix choices, whether all selected sizes qualify and whether the price applies again for another complete group.

Do not assume your shop software supports every promotion pattern. Show the exact rule in a demo before advertising it. A manually assembled offer listing and an automatic mixed-item discount have different stock and order-handling requirements.

Work the basket before writing the banner

Consider an illustrative single-bottle price of 7 currency units and an eligible three-bottle offer at 18. The table below assumes the offer applies to each complete group of three, with remaining bottles at the single price.

Eligible bottles Basket calculation Product total Average per bottle
1 1 × 7 7 7.00
3 One offer group 18 6.00
4 18 + 7 25 6.25
6 Two offer groups 36 6.00

At three bottles, the comparison is 21 at the single-item price versus 18 under the offer: a saving of 3, assuming the single-item price is a valid comparison for the promotion. The four-bottle basket is not 24 under this example rule. That is exactly the kind of surprise your copy should prevent.

These are product-price examples, not tax or delivery calculations. State how additional charges enter the actual total before a customer commits to an order.

Keep mixed baskets predictable

Add one ineligible item to the sample basket. It should stay at its own stated price, and the eligible group should remain understandable. Then remove a qualifying item and inspect how the total changes.

Check a mixed-flavour group, an unavailable choice and the boundary between one offer group and two. If the rule cannot be represented reliably, simplify the offer. A smaller, understandable promotion is better than a generous headline supported by manual corrections after every order.

Also inspect the staff-facing order. Staff need to know what was selected and what price was charged. A discount label should not replace the underlying product details needed to pick the order.

Choose the right merchandising mechanism

A straight multibuy rewards a stated quantity. DROPS Private Reserve uses a different mechanism: regular-menu spend unlocks selected premium products. It can support larger baskets while keeping those products exclusive. Choose the mechanism that matches your stock and commercial goal instead of treating the names as interchangeable.

Keep the descriptions themselves disciplined with consistent product information. Review the promotion after it ends so old pricing does not remain in images, category text or staff replies.

Explore DROPS with one real offer and a few sample baskets. See what customers understand before checkout, what the cart charges and what your team receives. Build an offer that earns the extra item in the basket through clarity.
